What’s happening in the Ukraine now is scary and terrible. Like many, I wonder what I can do to support those affected. I have these items I had crocheted and was unable to gift, and I don’t want my hard work to go to waste, so I would like to sell them now with all the monies to go to Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres) and their efforts to provide medical care and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and nearby regions affected.
I have five items for sale here. Each has a price suggestion, but they are “OBO,” i.e. or best offer. I want to donate as much as possible, so best offer gets the item. I can ship, but you’ll have to pay the shipping price. Otherwise, we can coordinate pick up location and time in Vancouver. I may even be able to drop it off, depending on where you are. The sale will be on until March 25th and I’ll contact the people who “win” the item they’ve bid on. Contact me if you’re interested in any of these items.

Marie Curie Crocheted Doll & Noteable Women Kids’ Book: $100 — SOLD
Marie Curie was an amazing scientist who won two Nobel prizes (for chemistry and physics). She and her husband Pierre discovered the elements radium (used in xrays and now some cancer treatments) and polonium (she was from Poland). If you want to read about an amazing person, read about Marie, as she moved forward science and rights for women. She didn’t patent her methods (and thus gave up the money she would have made!) for isolating radium, as she wanted to ensure the research community could do its work unhindered. Here is Marie Curie holding a beaker of radium, but don’t worry, it’s just felted wool. I’m selling this handmade Marie Curie with a board book about visionary women from around the world (https://www.amazon.ca/Think-Big-Little-Vashti-Harrison/dp/0316475130).

Big Blanket: SOLD–$100 OBO
This big yarn 62×44″ (larger if you stretch it out) blanket is made with easy-to-wash polyester yarn and is perfect for cuddling up on the couch with a good book or your favourite movie or tv series.
