My last post I created my own song. Ok, so it won’t win me any Grammys, but it was meant to cue you to steps to better health.
Today I was reminded how music can change how I feel, sometimes just a few notes in. I’m on day 35 of my 40 day yoga challenge. I didn’t feel like going this morning. I was tired. I was (still am) a bit sore–my hamstrings have never had this much stretch and work! In short, I was grumpy.
But, I’m committed to doing this challenge and have worked around bigger obstacles to keep going every day. I wasn’t going to cave in just because I was grouchy. As always, once I started the class I forgot about what I was thinking about going into the room and just did yoga. Truthfully, Grumpy was still there though and just being temporarily quieted by my attempts at focusing on my breath, my moves, and my practice.
But then it was time for Savasana (“dead man’s pose”, the one where you lay on your back and just close your eyes and relax and breathe at the end of yoga practice). Just a few notes in I recognized the song: Ong Namo by Snatam Kaur. I had heard this song once before in another yoga class and immediately loved it. This song makes me feel…in a word, peaceful.
Have you ever had a song that was love at first listen? A song that evokes a powerful feeling for you?
Here are my happy songs. Note that very few are from after 1989, so go ahead and mock me young ones! Or, better yet, comment with some more recent songs that make you happy and maybe I can expand my music list to include some new music. 🙂
