TCM Consultation
- Do you have symptoms or health condition that conventional medicine has not been able to address fully?
- Do your blood tests show normal even though you don’t feel healthy?
- Would you like to get to the root of your health issues, not just cover the symptoms?
- Do you want natural options for your health?
- Do you wonder which foods, herbs, and supplements are best for you?
Traditional Chinese Medicine is a powerful diagnostic and treatment system, used by millions of people over thousands of years. Though the TCM diagnostic names sound foreign–e.g. Liver Qi stagnation, Spleen Qi deficiency, Heart Fire, Kidney Yin Deficiency-Heat, Damp-Cold Bi syndrome, etc.–they are just words that allow a doctor of TCM to decide a course of treatment and make recommendations to you for lifestyle changes that best support your body. TCM is personalized, preventative, and holistic medicine.
What Happens at a TCM Consultation?
During a TCM consultation, I ask a lot of questions. Let’s take the example of someone coming in to address issues of abdominal bloating. Some questions are specific to the symptom, like, “Do you have any food allergies that you know of?” Others may seem unrelated, such as, “Do you experience any emotion more than other emotions–sadness, fear, worry, anger, joy?”
I feel the pulse, using three fingers on the wrist pulse and pressing at three different levels of depth, to get a sense of what is happening inside the body. You will also be asked to stick out your tongue (not during pandemic, however). The tongue shape, size, coating, colour, and markings give clues for areas of imbalance and stress in the body.
With a full written list of recommendations for treatment, including ideal foods, supplements, herbs, lifestyle changes, and treatment plan, you are on your way to the health you want.
