Nutrition and TCM Food Cures
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”
–Hippocrates
“Food Cures” is what we call nutrition in Traditional Chinese Medicine practice. This is because, like Hippocrates, TCM also believes that food is medicine. The oldest medical textbook, Huang Di Nei Jing (Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine), defines five classes of food:
- Medicines that provide cure
- Grains
- Fruits
- Animals
- Vegetables
Foods can have anti-inflammatory, immune supportive, metabolism boosting, cardiovascular enhancing, digestion repairing, and more healing benefits. Why not also find ways to make it tasty and enjoyable?
After a TCM consultation, I will make food suggestions, focusing on foods that you CAN eat, while also recommending the avoidance of foods that are not supportive to healing.
