Quick Notes on Health Books
Are you too busy to read all the health books you’d like? I’ll read and summarize them for you!
As a kid I loved to read. It likely started because my parents would read to me and I would try to follow along, as kids do. My parents tell me that I learned to read before they knew I had. I had a favourite book—Sleeping Beauty—and that was the first book I learned to read. I would become so immersed in a book that my cousins and sister once laughed in awe of me not noticing the ice cream dripping down my cone, my hand, and my arm, forming a sticking puddle in the back of our station wagon. I would read books throughout most of our drives between Montreal and Toronto (thankfully I didn’t get carsick). And if I finished a book early, I would entertain myself by reading road signs.
I still love to read, but don’t find much time to read fiction anymore. I plan to remedy that sometime, but right now I’m much more interested in the humongous selection of non-fiction books on the many topics involving health.
In fact, my whole career into Traditional Chinese Medicine was prompted by a book. I was in A&B Sound (an old music store that some of you may remember), bored and waiting for a friend. I was rummaging through a random pile of books on sale when I came across one on the basics of TCM. It was a picture book, of all things. It was cheap and looked interesting, so I bought it. I was hooked.
I think that one of the most important things you can do to better the world around you is to learn a bit more about yourself—how you tick, why you tick. If you take care of your own health and wellness, you’ll be much better equipped to take care of your world around you.
That’s why I’ve started this section to summarize and review a variety of health books. I think that while it’s helpful to know whether a book or not is good, that’s so subjective. I don’t want to be responsible for you trudging your way through a book that you hate because I said it’s my favourite (Sleeping Beauty is no longer my fave book, by the way). I also feel that too many of us are so strapped for time that we may have all the good intentions of picking up and reading a book, but may not carve out the time to do so.
Health Books Read and Simplified
So, I’m Coles noting it for you with online notes on health books I’ve read or am reading. These are summarized ideas so you can either take it at that or decide it’s intriguing enough for you to read the whole book yourself.
Are there any health books you’d like me to read and discuss, please let me know.
