Do you know of any assisted living home, long-term care facility, or other care home with residents currently in isolation because of COVID-19? Many are not able to have any family or friends visit them. The volunteers they would normally have keep them company are not allowed entry to the buildings. Their usual activities are cancelled. And the staff are just trying to keep everyone safe, so busier than ever and unable to spend much time with the residents.
Some of the very people we’re doing the social distancing, self-isolation, and quarantine for are getting weaker as they are unfortunately being left alone too much. My Nana is 100. She doesn’t understand what’s happening because she doesn’t hear well and she’s found the explanations too complex to understand fully. She also isn’t comfortable with all the online ways of connecting that have allowed many of us to stay in touch. She doesn’t have a computer, tablet, or smart phone, and the facility doesn’t have wifi. So, she’s apparently sleeping on and off all day and night and getting mentally, physically, and emotionally weaker. That’s not alright.
So, my mom and I created this activity BINGO game that you can take and use as you like. I’m keeping it as a Word document so you can change it and drop it off or email it to your loved ones or their care homes.
Do you have any other ideas of ways we can keep our elderly loved ones involved, active, and supported? I’d love to hear your suggestions!
