THE SCIENCE BEHIND
ACUPUNCTURE
How does acupuncture relieve pain? One piece may be its
effect on adenosine.
"Acupuncture eases pain: Nature Neuroscience"
A Mechanism of how Acupuncture Relieves Pain The study showed
that acupuncture increases the binding availability of mu-opioid
receptors in regions of the brain that process and weaken pain
signals—specifically the cingulate, insula, caudate, thalamus and
amygdala. By directly stimulating these chemicals, acupuncture can
affect the brain's long-term ability to regulate pain, the study
found.
Blood Pressure Changes With Acupuncture Comparable to Those With ACE
Inhibitor Monotherapy A study billed as the first rigorous,
randomized trial in the West to test acupuncture against a sham
needle technique to treat hypertension suggests that, performed
properly, acupuncture may produce blood pressure changes on par with
monotherapy in mild-to-moderate hypertension.
Even Forbes Magazine is writing about acupuncture and its benefits:

has formed to prevent the limitation of
patients to choose their practitioners and allow qualified
practitioners to practice as fully as possible. While it is
currently a U.S. issue, do you think this might eventually affect
Canadian health care?
