Welcome to
Dr. Melissa Carr's
April 2012 Newsletter.
Exciting
Events!
April showers brings May
flowers. Well, it had better! We've had more
than showers in Vancouver, it seems and we're
ready for warmer, drier weather! Or, at least I
am!
Complaining about the
weather is a Vancouver thing to do. Complaining
about pain is a human thing to do. While you
can't do much about the weather, you can do
something about pain! Learn about joint health,
get acupuncture and biopuncture, and/or come to
our wellness day fundraiser.
Please note that I'll be
away May 6-20th, so if you'd like to book an
appointment, do so soon!

Wellness
Fundraiser for Beauty Night
Last newsletter I
mentioned that my colleagues and I would be
offering our services on behalf of Beauty Night,
a registered charity helping women living in
poverty to regain their self-esteem. Well, that
time has come.
April 30th from
9:00-6:00, book your appointment for
acupuncture, biopuncture, TCM consults (mini
sessions too), nutrition consults, grocery store
education tours, integrative MD consults,
counselling sessions (mini sessions too),
mind-body sessions, acutonics, chiro treatment
and assessments, and fitness/posture
assessments. 100% of our proceeds goes to Beauty
Night (www.beautynight.org).
At this Wellness Fundraiser we will be offering
discounts
and special
health services. There will be
prizes
drawn hourly. There will be
yummy food
provided by 2 generous chefs! Call

Health
Information
On behalf of the joint
talk on joint health, I thought I'd write a
short blurb to introduce part of my portion of
the talk. I write this before the Canucks head
into game 5, so I have hockey on the brain. Read
my article about how your joints can be thought
of as a team that plays a game:
Winning at Joint Health
On behalf of Earth Day, I
thought I'd write an article about a tree and a
lesson on obstacles:
A Tree as a Lesson.
RECIPE
Energy Oatmeal
(2 servings)
I love making this for
breakfast. I find having this same breakfast
nearly every morning makes for simplicity--one
less thing I have to think about and I prepare
it before I go to bed so it's ready when I get
up.
If you don't have a rice
cooker with a timer, you can make it on the
stovetop instead.
I do this in my Zojirushi
rice cooker that has a timer I can set to have
it ready for any time I want. I figure that the
soaking in water overnight will help to gently
sprout the seeds, berries, and oats for easier
digestion.
Ingredients
1/3 cup steel cut oats
handful of pumpkin seeds
small handful of raisins
small handful of goji
berries
small handful of
unsweetened coconut flakes
1 cup water
Directions
Place everything rice
cooker bowl. Set timer and put setting to
"porridge". Start. When it's ready, optional to
sweeten honey or maple syrup (I find it sweet
enough as is). Pour on as much nut milk or rice
milk or coconut milk as you like. Enjoy!
