Welcome back to Active Life Health Clinic's March newsletter.
Pain, allergies, and digestive issues, what
do they have in common? I love to treat them and help people get
better! If one of these issues relates to you, read on below.
In Our News:
Thank
you to those who donated to my Climb for Clean Air fundraiser for
the BC Lung Association! My goal was $100, but I actually raised
$270 and the total raised so far is more than $173,000! Join me next
year!

Always wanting to support various
health-related causes, consider supporting my colleague,
chiropractor Dr. Ryan Iverach who will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro
in September to fundraise for the Arthritis Society.

Check
out this new website
www.EcoChicInternational.com. Starting in April, I’ll be writing
weekly health tips for them.
And, speaking of eco chic, do you know that
one of the worst offenders of waste is the disposable coffee cup?
Even when a percentage of the cup is made from recycled material,
remember the other two Rs of reduce, recycle, and reuse is to reduce
waste. Get a stainless steel sealed mug that allows you to both
reduce your use of disposable cups and reuse the same item over and
over.
As an
incentive, for every detoxification package or sauna
package purchased in March and April,
we will give you the Active Life Health Clinic
double-walled, tightly sealed, stainless steel tea and coffee (and
Chinese herb!) mug.

Helping you
help yourself!
My goal:
To work in partnership with you to bring you to
your optimal health.
My focus:
Ongoing health, not just temporary relief.
This is
active health.

Allergies, Pain, and Digestive
Issues...Oh My!
Allergies
It’s spring again! Great for those of us who love the flowers and
blooming trees that come with the season. Not great for those of you
who suffer from allergies. If you are starting to notice itchy or
watery eyes, runny or stuffy nose, scratchy throat, or skin rashes,
then take steps to address that now. While not my article, this is a
good description, so read on to learn more:
Treating Allergies with Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine
And for some recent research:
Acupuncture Effective for Allergic Rhinitis
Pain
What is it that you love to do? What does your pain cause you to
have to put limits on? I love helping my patients to do the things
that they need or want to do. This is a letter that I received from
one of my patients:
“Just to let you know- on Wed. before my appointment, my hip was
almost throbbing. After the acupuncture, yesterday and
today, the pain is almost gone entirely. I have hardly even
thought about my hip at all. It's amazing! Thank you
for that treatment- now it's onward to China!”
You could substitute in “low back”, “neck”,
“shoulder”, whatever area ails you in for “hip”. And perhaps you
would change “onward to China” for “off to play golf”, or “soccer”,
or “hockey”; “I can play with my kids”; or “time to go dancing”!
Digestion
Food as medicine. Medicine as food. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs
can help improve your digestion and treat your digestive symptoms
and diseases. Remember that food is key and enjoy these TCM classic
food cures:
Constipation
· Mix 2 teaspoons of honey in a glass of warm water.
Drink on an empty stomach first thing in the morning.
OR
· Eat 1 or 2 figs or very ripe bananas (hard bananas
could cause more problems) on an empty stomach first thing in the
morning.
Diarrhea
· Peel 2 garlic cloves and crush them; add 2 teaspoons
of brown sugar; boil in a half cup of water; drink this hot "soup"
2 to 3 times daily.
OR
· Crush a few fresh radishes to squeeze out the juice.
Drink the juice twice daily.
